“I was in ROTC [Reserve Officers’ Training Corps]. And the best part was
that on the day of graduation, I had a job waiting as a lieutenant. […]
They sent me to the Air Force Global Weather Center, AFGWC, where the
main forecasting was done for the Air Force. […] They needed somebody
who understood electronics and someone who was interested in
satellites in orbit. […] I had a whole briefing on full-size flip paper with
markers, and I didn't know it until they flipped it over, and I saw the
first chart and said, ‘My goodness, that's really exciting.’”
